About

Annan Academy’s library holds over 9000 resources, most of which may be borrowed by pupils and staff. Resources also include five computers linked to the school’s intranet and the internet. There is also a scanner and  two networked printers, colour and mono. A Smartboard is also available to aid teaching and learning. The library’s  management system has an OPAC (On line Public Access Catalogue) Searchstar that  can be accessed across the school campus. Searchstar provides weblinks to sites suitable for secondary school aged pupils.

Floorplan of the library

To assist pupils in their search for books Searchstar shows this plan of the library;  flashing red spots indicate the location of titles on the shelves.

The library supports the Reading Record Award scheme in partnership with the English Department. Our reading record has been cited as an example of good practice by HMIE.

The library also has a Library Skills programme to support reading and writing across the curriculum. Pupils learn about the Dewey classification system and how to find books and information independently. They also learn the importance of effectively searching the internet for information that is useful, relevant and correct.Have a go at  this  ‘Order in the Library’ game, it’s fun!

The library is open throughout the school day (except for period four) and after school until 4.10pm.

Books are normally issued for a period of three weeks. However book loans may be renewed on return of the item to the library. S1,S2 & S3 pupils may borrow up to three items at one time, S4 -four items and s5/6 -five items.

Fines/charges – there are no fines to pay for the late return of books, pupils are trusted  to borrow responsibly with due concern for other borrowers. However, when books are lost or damaged beyond repair pupils may be asked to cover the  replacement cost.

I think it is a good thing you have a map of the library. If you are looking for something you can easily find it with the help of this.
